Guide for Adding Working Lights and Fires to a Dolls House

Socket Strip Method

The socket strip method uses a combination of wires, plugs and sockets to connect lights in your dolls house to a power source. This method is easy to modify and install.

Lights normally come with 60cm of wire with a standard sized plug on the end. The wire from each light is run to a point in the house where you have decided to place your socket strip. In front opening houses it is best to attach a socket strip to the back of the house

Step 1.
Plan where the lights are going in each room

Step 2.
Make a small hole in the back wall of each room to pass the wire from the light through to the back of the house.

Step 3
Remove the plug from the wire attached to the light (use pliers to remove the two pins from the plug) and pass the wire through the hole in the back of the house.

Step 4
Refit the plug – make sure there is good contact between wires and pins

Step 5
Plug directly into the socket strip.

Step 6
Connect the socket strip to the transformer

Step 7

The transformer can then be plugged into any normal household socket

Please note: working fires usually come with wire but do not have a plug attached

Copper Tape Method

You will need pliers, small drill and a soldering iron

Step 1.
Plan where the lights are going in each room

Step 2.
Make a small hole to pass the wire from the light through the back of the house.

Step 3
Mark out the layout for the two parallel strips of copper tape on the back of the house.

Step 4
The wires from the lights pass through the back panel to connect to the copper tape.

Step 5
Connect the transformer to the circuit on the back of the house

This method is more often used for houses that are not front opening as the copper tape can be run around the house and hidden under flooring and wall paper.

Please note: copper tape can be eroded by adhesives
